It’s an event unlike no other, and you’re invited. The Mothers Matter Centre (MMC) celebrates the everyday yet extraordinary actions made by women across Canada at our annual Because Mothers Matter Awards.
The 2023 Because Mothers Matter Awards will take place in person and on Zoom, on May 10th, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm PDT.

About the event
The event spotlights stellar achievers – from prominent Canadian moms to a select circle of outstanding mothers involved in the HIPPY program. All deeply committed to their communities, these women exemplify the uniquely powerful role of mothers to lead social change.
The theme of 2023’s Gala is The Legacy of Change: Principles, Practice, and People – a legacy each honouree has brought to the world by contributing to the HIPPY program’s life-changing work over the last 23 years.
The event’s Mother of the Year is Debbie Bell, founding CEO/President of the Mothers Matter Centre. We’ll also celebrate three outstanding HIPPY Coordinators – women who themselves began in the program as HIPPY mothers and have committed their lives to operating HIPPY sites across Canada. Plus, we’ll bestow a further honour with the Trailblazer Award, presented to the Honourable Dr. Hedy Fry, who has demonstrated foresight and boldness to forge positive change.
