The MMC celebrates women’s every day — yet extraordinary — achievements with our annual Because Mothers Matter Awards. We recognize both prominent Canadian women as well as a number of outstanding mothers from the HIPPY program. These women all show a commitment to their communities and serve as models for the unique role women play in leading social change.
The 2021 Because Mothers Matter Awards took place on Zoom, on May 5th, 2021 from 5 to 6:30 pm PDT.
The award ceremony was a huge success and we absolutely loved being able to give a platform to our amazing and deserving honourees! At this year’s event Dr. Theresa Tam and Dr. Cindy Blackstock received the Because Mothers Matter Award for their noteworthy professional accomplishments while giving back to their community. Two HIPPY mothers with extraordinary stories, Nusrat Awan and Jessica Seegerts, were also honoured. Carol Slater was the first recipient of the Trailblazer Award.
During the event, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Dr. Sharon Johnson presented the premiere of the Mothering During COVID-19 discussion series video featuring HIPPY mothers. The video provided a unique insight into the challenges and resilience of mothering in the global pandemic.
This event and our programs are made possible through the generous support of our partners and donors.
