Bright Beginnings: A Campaign to Support Mothers and
Children Rebuilding Their Lives After Abuse
Every child has the right to a safe and joyful childhood. Yet many children in Canada face unimaginable trauma. Our Safe Space for Early Learning Foundations (SELF) Program is here to change that. Through trauma-informed, play-based learning, we offer children living in second-stage shelters the opportunity to heal, grow, and prepare for a brighter future.
As we approach the end of our pilot funding for SELF, we need your support to continue and expand this vital program. Your gifts matter. They will help us provide life-changing early education in shelters across Canada, giving more children the chance to rebuild trust and experience the joys of childhood.
The Impact of Trauma on Young Lives
Children affected by intimate partner violence carry the weight of fear and instability, which can shape their futures. The SELF program is designed to offer these children the loving support they need to thrive, breaking the cycle of abuse and empowering them to build positive relationships.
SELF: A Safe, Healing Space
With bi-weekly playgroups, storytime, and crafts, SELF nurtures communication skills and fosters creativity—all in a safe, familiar environment led by their mothers. For many, this is the first time they’ll experience stability and joy as a family.
